Welders!!

STS Steel, Inc. is currently seeking to fill the position of Welder.  The ideal candidate is motivated, detail oriented, organized, and needs little direct supervision.  The individual must understand the potential dangers of working in a complex / busy environment handling large pieces of steel and therefore must follow all safety guidelines. We are located in the Capital Region of New York.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing high quality welding using SMAW, FCAW, and SAW processes in accordance with specified weld symbols and procedures shown on documents.
  • Use distortion control techniques to keep assemblies in tolerance after welding.
  • Perform oxy-fuel torch cutting of parts for assembly.
  • Assist layout and fitters with assembling structural assemblies.

Qualifications:

  • Quality, safety minded, reliable, precise, self-motivated.
  • Honest, trustworthy, accurate, and dedicated to their career
  • Welding: 2 years (Preferred)

Schedule:  Full-time

  • 10-hour shift (5:00 am – 3:30 pm, M-Th + 5:00 am – 2:30 pm F)

Layout/ Fitter
Responsibilities include:

  • Interpret fabrication drawings for layout, fitting, assembly, and welding of structural assemblies.
  • Measure and mark location and identification of holes, copes, hardware, and welds.
  • Fit parts and assemblies to the appropriate location within specified tolerances.

Industrial Painter
Responsibilities include:

  • Surface Preparation by means of solvent cleaning, hand tool cleaning, power tool cleaning, and abrasive shot blasting.
  • Masking and preparation of parts for painting.
  • Measurement of a proper mixing of a variety of coatings such as organic and inorganic zincs, epoxies, and polyurethanes.
  • Application of coatings by using various techniques such as brush and roll striping, conventional (air pressure pot), and airless spraying.
  • Use of both wet film gauges and dry film gauges.

Senior Structural Steel Quality Inspector

We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a full time Senior Structural Steel Quality Inspector who can work with the Quality Manager to ensure all products are fabricated and shipped in compliance with approved contract documents.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform dimensional inspections of fabricated parts
  • Perform inspection of welds, bolted connections, and painting.
  • Assist in training new craftspeople.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience in the structural steel fabrication and erection industry.

Medium Physical Requirements:

  • Use all limbs and make a variety of movements (push/pull/bend/twist) to move heavy and bulky merchandise that may weigh up to 30 pounds (unassisted)
  • Possess accurate depth perception, visual focus, field of vision, color vision, and clarity of vision (far and near)
  • Occasional exposure to a dusty and noisy warehouse environment where surfaces may be uneven due to cracks from forklifts, and/or slippery when wet
  • Drive a personal or work vehicle

Preferred Certifications:

  • W.S. – C.W.I.
  • S.N.T. – N.D.E. Level II in Ultrasonic and Magnetic Particle Testing.
  • NACE Level II or SSPC BCI Level 1
  • 2-year technical degree

Working knowledge of:

  • AWS D1.1, D1.4, D1.5 and D1.8, AASHTO and AREMA
  • SSPC Painting Specifications
  • AISC Manual of Steel Construction; Specification for Structural Joints Using High Strength Bolts; Code of Standard Practice; Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings; Certification Standard for Steel Fabrication and Erection; and Manufacturing of Metal Components
