Fulton CenterABOUT US

STS Steel is a successful structural steel and plate fabricator founded in 1984 to serve customers who needed solutions to complex fabrication problems on small to medium size projects.

In 1989, after 5 years of steady growth, STS Steel moved into a unique building constructed in 1919 by American Locomotive in Schenectady, NY for fabrication of heavy locomotives. With its 125-ton lifting capacity, this 62,000-square-foot facility enabled STS Steel to serve customers with larger projects and heavy shipping pieces including Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS).

Expertise gained performing DOT work for bridges and lock gates has been applied to challenges in the building market where plate fabrication is utilized for architectural or structural reasons. Our skilled craftsmen enjoy meeting the challenges presented by unique structures with AESS requirements and sophisticated coatings.

Whether it's a building, bridge, lock gate or other unique structure, like a steel house, STS Steel finds a way to get the job done right and on time.

STS Steel is certified by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) for Steel Building Structures, Advanced Steel Bridges, and Hydraulic Steel Structures with Fracture Critical and Sophisticated Paint Endorsements. The Sophisticated Paint Endorsement also meets the requirements of the Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) QP3.

STS Steel focuses on insuring a safe work environment for its employees. In December 2011, STS became one of the few steel fabricators in New York State to be SHARP (Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program) certified by OSHA and the New York State Department of Labor. The SHARP certification was renewed in December 2012.

STS Steel established an employee stock ownership program in 2009 making it a 100% employee owned business. Every employee is invested in the success of every project. We are large enough to handle complex challenges but small enough to give every customer the personal attention required by their unique project. STS embraces a diverse workplace and have associates from many races and ethnic backgrounds working together in an environment of trust and collaboration. Many of our shop associates are immigrants hailing from places such as Guyana, Cambodia, Mongolia, Bosnia, and the Dominican Republic. We are very proud of our diverse associates who all share a passion for building complex structures with excellence and craftsmanship. We encourage people who are underrepresented in the fields of manufacturing and construction to apply. You will find a respectful and supportive workplace.
